1 Introduction

AKKON PLC is a programmable logic controller board that can be used for general purpose tasks in the area of development, teaching and automation. Becaus of its high performace it can very good be used for as motion controller for numeric controller machines (CNC).

2 Architecture

Following picture shows the architecture of the AKKON PLC board. The black colored boxes outline logic elements, the blue ones plugs. The arrows indicate the information flow and its directions.

Features of the AKKON PLC board

Inputs and outputs resp. interfaces on FPGA

  • 20 digital over- and under-voltage protected inputs with filter and led indicating current logic state

  • 29 digital outputs, driving 10 mA each with over-current protection and led indicating current logic state

  • 8 digital outputs with high side drivers, driving 50 mA, 24 V on each output

  • RS232, RS485 interface FPGA

  • Extension-Interface with 34 IOs from FPGA, SPI, analogue input and PWM output from ARM7 controller for further IOs and interface to further user logic

  • Described IOs accessible over DIN41612C plug

FPGA

  • High-performance FPGA with 26000 logic cells and 600 KB internal RAM

  • Second and external clock source (optional)

  • Configuration of FPGA over USB or JTAG

  • Additional high speed CMOS static RAM for memory intensive applications
    Large non volatile configuration memory

USB

  • High speed USB controller connected with FPGA with480 MBit / s band width

  • Extension interface accessing 16 IOs from USB high speed controller

Micro controller

  • Optional ARM7 micro controller with USB and RS232 interface for general task

  • Programming over RS232 boot loader or JTAG interface

  • USB- and RS232 interface on board

General

  • Additional leds for indicating current system state of FPGA, USB- and ARM7-Controler

  • Board size 160 mm x 100 mm, Height around 20 mm

  • hardware prepared for easy assembling in 19 inch case
